John A. Clayton: Admergill with Blacko and Brogden : The History of an Ancient Pennine Estate

Description
Admergill is a quiet valley straddling the old boundary of east Lancashire and west Yorkshire. This, however, has not always been the case. The valley here once formed an integral part of the ancient trade routes running through the district and this saw the creation of deep defensive ditches and fortified mounds - evidence of a turbulent past that can still be seen today. The 840 acre Admergill estate has a long and chequered history stretching back into the Iron Age at least. The land here has been fought over by kings, queens and monastic abbeys while the local nobility have long held it to have been their own. Within this book can be found hitherto undiscovered local history, from stone circles to a lost Medieval hamlet. On many occasions the history of Admergill spilled over its many boundary ditches into the surrounding areas of Blacko, White Moor and Brogden (Barnoldswick) and these form part of the important research to be found within these covers. The Admergill district of East Lancashire and West Craven is a unique parcel of hitherto undiscovered, and fascinating local history.
"A must-read." "Paste" magazine Judith Schalansky lures us across all the oceans of the world to fifty remote islands - from St Kilda to Easter Island and from Tristan da Cunha to Disappointment Island - and proves that some of the most memorable journeys can be taken by armchair travellers. Comes with: Hinton, I Capture the Castle - Dodie Smith, Postcards from No Man's Land - Aidan Chambers, After the First Death - Robert Cormier, Dear Nobody - Berlie Doherty, The Endless Steppe - Esther Hautzig, Buddy - Nigel Hinton, Across the Barricades - Joan Lingard, The Twelfth Day of July - Joan Lingard, No Turning Back - Beverley Naidoo, Z for Zachariah - Richard C. O'Brien, The Wave - Morton Rhue, The Red Pony - John Steinbeck, The Pearl - John Steinbeck, Stone Cold - Robert Swindells Perhaps there's nothing more to it than under-the-table business dealings gone awry. Or perhaps a single act of vigilante justice ignited a brutal battle. As Doyle and Acton fight not to become the Admergill with Blacko and Brogden : The History of an Ancient Pennine Estate free pdf next victims, they'll find that the truth may be best left unspoken, and retribution may be best left to fate...
